How to Choose a New Name for Your Cat

It can be tough to choose just one name for a new cat because there are so many fitting options to consider. The first thing to do is decide whether you want to choose a gender-specific name or a unisex option. Once that decision is made, you can start narrowing your options to a handful that your cat can try on for size.

Take the time to write down the names from these lists that you like the most. From there, you can narrow the options even more by trying out the names when calling your cat. See which one seems to roll off the tongue the easiest and which your cat seems to respond to the most. Maybe take a poll among your family members. Don’t rush the process. Your cat doesn’t have to be named right after coming home for the first time.

Conclusion

Naming your cat can be a fun and exciting experience if you keep an open mind and don’t put pressure on yourself to choose a name immediately. Take your time, learn the meanings of the various names that you like, and choose something that you feel good about. Your cat will not understand what their name is; they will just learn to correlate their name being called with themselves. So, you don’t have to worry about whether your cat will like the name. What matters is that you are happy with what you choose.
