The 6 Homemade Enzyme Cleaner for Cat Urine Recipes
1. Hydrogen Peroxide Cat Urine Cleaner
- ¾ cup hydrogen peroxide
- 1 teaspoon dish soap
- Baking soda
Cover the cat pee stain liberally with baking soda. Allow the baking soda to sit for up to 2 hours. While it is sitting, combine the hydrogen peroxide and dish soap in a small bowl or glass.
Pour the mixture over the baking soda, and let it fully absorb, working the solution down into the carpet. Blot up any excess liquid with paper towels.
When the stain is dry, vacuum up the baking soda.
2. White Vinegar Cat Urine Cleaner
- Baking soda
- 4 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide
- 1 teaspoon dish soap
- White vinegar
Pour baking soda over the affected area. After 10 minutes, pour vinegar over the baking soda. Blot up any excess liquid with paper towels, and let the mixture sit for 1 minute.
Mix hydrogen peroxide and dish soap in a bowl, and scrub it into the stain over the vinegar and baking soda. Use an old toothbrush or cloth to work the mixture into the area.
Blot the stain with paper towels.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar Cat Urine Cleaner
- ½ cup warm water
- ½ cup apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is made of acidic ingredients that eliminate odor-causing bacteria and neutralize alkaline components of the urine.
Mix water and apple cider vinegar in a bowl, and pour the solution over the affected area. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Blot up any excess liquid with paper towels.
4. Hydrogen Peroxide and Water Cat Urine Cleaner
This recipe is good to make and keep on hand in a spray bottle for accidents around the litter box or on hardwood floors and walls.
- ½ cup hydrogen peroxide
- 1 cup water
Add ingredients to a spray bottle. When cat pee is on hard surfaces around your home, wipe up the pee with paper towels. Then use this cleaner to spray the area to combat any odors. Dry with paper towels.
5. Enzyme Cat Urine Cleaner – Vet Approved
- Biological washing powder
- Hot water
- Bicarbonate of soda
- Surgical Spirit (clear)
- Spray bottle
- Paper towels
Using the Enzyme Cleaner
- Step 1 – Make a mix of biological washing powder and a small amount of very hot water to dissolve it. The proteases in biological washing powder help to break down the biological components of cat urine. This helps to get rid of the smells that you and your cat can smell.
- Step 2 – Add warm water to the powder mix until you have a solution that is 1 part biological washing powder to 9 parts warm water, a 10% solution.
- Step 3 – Soak the urine spot in the solution and leave for 30-60 minutes to work.
- Step 4 – Blot up the remaining liquid with a plain paper towel. Rinse the area with clean water and repeat soaking up with a paper towel until the detergent is gone.
- Step 5 – Liberally apply bicarbonate of soda powder to draw out any remaining moisture and leave for 12 hours. Use a vacuum cleaner to lift off the dried powder.
- Step 6 – Put surgical spirit into a spray bottle spray over the affected area and leave to dry. The surgical spirit breaks down any remaining fats from the urine and is an important last step.
6. Carpet Refresher
- 1 cup baking soda
- ¼ cup dried crushed lavender
Mix the ingredients. Sprinkle the mixture over your carpet. Let it sit for a minimum of 20 minutes, and then vacuum.
For Cleaning Clothes
If your favorite shirt is the unlucky recipient of a cat urine accident, rinse out as much of the urine as possible without soaking the whole garment. Then run the clothing through the washing machine using biological washing powder.
