Does Figo Pet Insurance Cover Training? 2025 Update

Pet Insurance Form in the tablet

Figo pet insurance offers three extensive plans with customizable coverage and 100% reimbursement. With so many add-ons, though, it can be hard to keep track of what these do and do not cover. For example, training often falls into a grey area when it comes to insurance coverage. Some companies cover it, others don’t, and still others only cover it under certain conditions.

Let’s examine whether Figo pet insurance covers training and what you need to know regarding your coverage.

Does Figo Pet Insurance Cover Training?

Figo Pet Insurance offers coverage for behavioral modification therapy. This coverage is available with its “wellness” add-on package, and the amount of coverage can be increased with the “veterinary exam fee” add-on package. Coverage is not available with the basic plans.

The wellness add-on covers the cost of behavioral treatments up to $500. If you have the exam fee package, this amount is increased to $1,000.

It’s important to note that Figo does not offer basic obedience or puppy training coverage. You will only receive reimbursement for behavioral modification training that is meant to correct a certain behavioral problem that has been identified by your veterinarian.

What Is Behavioral Modification Training?

There are many different types of behavior training, but most involve using positive reinforcement techniques for positive behaviors. Bad behavior can develop for several reasons, including a health condition or pain, so it’s important to have your vet rule these out before assuming that it’s a training issue. That said, certain behavior problems (like aggression, for example) require more in-depth training conducted by a professional.

Dog behavior modification trainers are usually professional dog trainers with some form of behavioral modification certification. You will need to provide this certification information to receive coverage for the training from your pet insurance.

Cost of Behavior Training

The cost of behavior training depends on various factors, including:
  • The type of dog
  • The issue requiring training
  • How extensive the problem is
  • The individual trainer

Most of the time, trainers charge a fee per training session. The more serious the problem is, the more sessions are needed.

General dog training ranges from $30 to $80 per session. Behavioral modification training can be between $200 and $600 per session. If your dog requires boot camp-style training where they are boarded at a training facility, it can cost between $500 and $1,250 per week.

Pet Insurance Companies That Cover Training

Figo pet insurance does offer coverage for behavioral training. However, you will be required to have both add-on packages to receive the maximum $1,000 of coverage. There are a few alternative insurance companies that also offer behavior training coverage.

  • Embrace: Embrace pet insurance includes coverage for behavioral training in its illness/injury policy. It covers all costs associated with the training and any medications used to improve behavior.
  • Pets Best: Pets Best doesn’t cover the cost of behavior training, but it does cover prescriptions and vet consults for behavioral issues.
  • SPOT: SPOT pet insurance covers behavior issues within its illness-and-accident policy if those issues are treated by a veterinarian. Consultations and prescription drugs are also covered.
  • Nationwide: Nationwide’s Whole Pet with Wellness policy covers treatments of behavioral issues. These include training, vet consultations, and prescriptions. Training must be prescribed by a veterinarian for it to be covered.

Summary

Figo Pet Insurance offers limited behavioral modification training coverage if you have purchased an add-on package with your insurance policy. Figo’s basic plan does not cover training, and none of the plans offer coverage for basic obedience training. There are several pet insurance companies that do offer behavior training coverage. However, most have certain conditions that must be met for the training costs to be reimbursed.
